A Mysterious In The Autumn, 2022
Oil on canvas
12*24 in

‘A Mysterious Dance In the Autumn’  (2022)  draws on the painting Autumn Colors among Streams and Mountains by Ming dynasty painter Shen Zhou for the background and places a character from Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delight, made in the same period, in the foreground. I use pink and lavender purple to paint the background and created some bubbles and a flowing texture. The image shows two brown tone skin figures wearing a pink eggshell over their heads together, with an owl lying on top of the eggshell, and the two figures swinging their arms and legs, seemingly in a mystical dance. This is the first experiment to combine Chinese painting with Western painting, and the design of the figures is influenced by the dance of the gods in Buddhist culture. With such out-of-place movements in the background of a quiet Chinese landscape painting, I tried to create a sense of mystery. I aim to create a harmonious, somewhat creepy atmosphere to express my own sense of uncertainty.
