The Pool of Tear, 2022
Oil on canvas, Paper clay sculpture
15*15 in

In ‘The pool of Tear’ (2022), there is a mushroom-head girl figure sitting above a mushroom shape architecture. The mushroom-head girl is a sculpture made of paper clay. I try to break the boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks, establish a connection between them, and add layers to the painting by using the light and shadow effects of the three- dimensional sculpture on the flat painting. The sculpture is attached to the canvas by magnets, so it can be moved on the painting or moved to other paintings. I hope to break the seriousness of easel painting and add fun and playfulness to the paintings. AI art issue was widely discussed when I created this work, and it caused me to think about it. In some ways,  AI art is considered a threat to traditional art, so I wanted to explore whether the artist's use of AI art would affect their own creation and whether AI art could help the creation of traditional painting.  I used images generated by an AI program from keywords such as “tears,” “mushroom,” and “water,” and combined them with elements from Chinese landscape paintings.
