‘The Queen's Croquet-Ground’ (2023) is a representation of the Red Queen playing croquet in Alice's story. The design of the court is a colorful black hole that is dissolving. The design of the main character, the Red Queen, and her attendant are based on Chinese Tang Dynasty sculptures of ladies. Influenced by the clown character in horror movies, I designed the characters with dull smiles, a witty surface that hides emotional signals and creates uncertainty, a projection of my own fears. The Red Queen is holding an unbreakable elf as her club and is about to hit the peach into the hole as a ball. The other peaches fled because they did not want to be hit as balls into the infinite black hole, and the Red Queen's soldiers chased the peaches with cannibal flowers in hand in an attempt to capture them. The poker card soldiers were designed as mahjong soldiers with Chinese elements, while I made sculptures of the cannibal flowers to add a sense of impact. At the top of the screen, I designed a God's-view character, an observer who is not part of the story but can influence the development of the story, and who mischievously extends his finger to push down one of the Mahjong soldiers while they are chasing the peaches. This character represents an unpredictable fate, an accident that will appear in real life at some point, and it will be silently observing you tease you from time to time.
